Thought I'd put up a picture of my darling little organza bags. Every purchase of a PureMoon product is packed up in these bags for you to keep your beaded goodies in. They're so popular that I've had customers commenting that they'd gladly come back for my accessories just to get the bag! Heh. I wonder if that's compliment...?

Alam

While making this piece I couldn't help but be reminded by the colors of nature... So I named it Alam which means Nature in Malay. A rather masculine name but I think it suits the piece.

Alam was made with 4mm Swarovski crystals in (top to bottom) Clear, Light Azore and Peridot. Each strand is then finished off with a tiny Bluish Green Czech fringe bead and the centerpiece is a clear Light Blue Czech teardrop. Retails @ RM35/US$10

Beckoning Cat

I know this is seriously early, but my Maneki Neko and I would like to wish everyone in advance...
This little guy stands a little over an inch and sits on top of my shelf at the office when he's not modeling! He also has a twin that resides on my bookshelf at home between family pictures. The bamboo plant pictured came together with the kitties as a set. It's so kitschy that I had to have them!

Maneki Neko actually means Beckoning Cat in Japanese and is supposed to bring its owner good luck and/or wealth. Although it's actually Japanese, the Chinese have adopted it as their own... I mean who wouldn't want to?? They're cute, they're kitsch and they bring you good luck! Get me more why dontcha?!?

Oh, and did you know that the color of the kitty, the accessories it has on, the paw lifted and how high it's lifted actually mean something? I'll never walk into another Sushi bar or Chinese store without looking out for a Maneki Neko ever again. Read more about this awesome and fascinating little fella at this wonderful site.

I [heart] Gadgets & Gizmos!

Hi, my name is Murni and I'm a gadget & gizmo addict. For one thing, I never leave home without my thumb drives. One is my 1G Pendrive for files and pictures, and the other is my super thin, super small 512MB Kingmax for my music. Made the silver Gadget Strap pictured above so that I can keep them together and look chic toting them around the office. I can also attach this handy little accessory to my handbag's strap so that I can easily find them in the jungle that is my handbag.... Uber Tech Geek Chic, no?

The Gadget Strap was made with 4mm Swarovski crystal in Argentum Silver (can be made in any other color too) and comes with a strong clasp for your thumb drives, hand phones, PDA and whatnots. The strap is made to easily slip on and off your wrist and can be made to your measurement. Retails @ RM20/US$6.

The little pink Cherry Blossom is a Hand Phone Charm and is pure frippery... but cute! It comes separately and can be made to any color your little heart desires.

The Hand Phone Charm was made with 4mm Swarovski crystals in Rosaline and Rose Alabaster plus white Japanese seed beads. It comes together with a little hand phone finding. Retails @ RM8/US$2.50

Nathifa & Naila

If you're a regular at this blog, you'd recognize Nathifa's design. The main difference is that Nathifa was made extra long as a shoulder duster piece to go with my black off shoulder, butterfly sleeve top and long brown silk batik skirt with a train(!) for a friend's wedding last weekend. This particular piece is not for sale but if you'd like a remake, do email me and I'd gladly oblige.

As this piece is MINE I've decided to give it my name but with a twist... kinda. You see, my name Murni means Pure in Malay. And so in continuing the Egyptian theme, I've named this piece Nathifa which means Pure. Geddit??

Nathifa was made mainly with 4mm Swarovski crystals in Dorado (special effect) and Czech faceted teardrops in Black. Retails @ RM104/US$30

Naila has already gone home with my most loyal customer, Natalie, but I thought I'd feature it here anyway. I think Naila is very simple and yet unexpected. The teardrop dangles definitely plays it up... I'm so gonna make one for myself later.

Oh by the way, Naila means Successful in Egyptian so yeah, I guess I'm wishing the wearer of this piece success and good fortune.

Naila was made with imported gold plated filigree components and 3mm Swarovski Crystal in Gold Shadow, plus tiny Czech teardrops in Gold. Retails @ RM35/US$10

Debauchery

Thought I'd better put these up before I forget.
I'm not proud of these going-ons but it was FUN!
This was from our relatively quiet New Year Eve's celebration. Love the posters they had on the walls. Oh, and did you spy the 2 silly nuts with bright red things up their facial cavities? That's Raez on the left (go say hi here) and Amin on the right who's about to get MARRIED!!!! (how could you tell us at the last minute, you crazy SOB?!?)
Andy just turned, uh.... 27! (right Andy? *wink*) The party was at Bubble Lounge which was smoky and dark, perfect for all kinds of debauchery that Andy so loves. The picture above shows the birthday boy slurping up the traditional Birthday Flaming Lamborghini my boyfriend got him. Yes, we have a philosophy here: It's just not your birthday without a Flamin'! Anyways, I think Andy handled it well. Hehehe.

Weddings Every Week

Wow. This month is just jam packed with weddings. We've been going to at least one every week! I guess my batch of friends and I are at that age when the clock starts ticking although something must be wrong with mine (hehehe). Anyways, the handmade mengkuang box pictured above contains a little something I picked up from my collection of Egyptian "paraphernalia" that the newlyweds can enjoy together. Hmmm... I wonder if they've figured it out yet?

The wedding reception was really spectacular. Guests were greeted at the door by a Mariachi band and led into a Spanish themed hall decked out in dripping glass mosaics and live red roses. The food was Mediterranean and scrumptious. Shame that not only did we not bring a camera but we had to leave halfway for another wedding! And the groom was a classmate of mine from KTJ! And most of the old gang was there! Oh the frustration!

I'll get over it. Luckily got to see everyone and catch up a little. Will definitely meet up with these people more often. Such a shame not to.

Anyways, Arif and Alia dear,
Congrats and thanks for putting up such an excellent wedding. May you have a lifetime of happiness together.

Cheers!
Murni

Egyptian Maybe

This is Masika which means born during the rain in Egyptian. I actually took a longer time than usual coming up with a name because all the Malay names I could think of somehow didn't fit... My mom solved the problem by just taking one look at it and simply said, "it looks very Egyptian." Well, that explains it! Hence the necklace was christened Masika as an ode to the rainy season we've been having here in Malaysia.

I taught this piece to my Level 4 students as the grand final project (Level 4 being the very last level) and I must say that I'm really proud at how far they've come... they didn't even bat an eyelash when I presented this piece to them whereas before if I so much as mentioned a weaving project everyone would collectively groan! *proud beam* I think I'm going to miss this batch of students very much...

Anyways, Masika is not for sale (sorry). She will be residing at Sophia as a show piece but if you'd like a remake, do email me. Masika was made with loads of bronze seed beads, 4mm synthetic pearls in bluish green and 4mm Swarovski crystals in Olivine and Blue Zircon.

Mandisa, however is for sale. Meaning sweet in Egyptian, Mandisa is a fairly large piece and I think, very glamorous. Made entirely by accident as I was trying out a new kind of weave, I'm totally in love with this piece but it takes simply ages to finish... ah well, I suppose all good things come to those who are wait eh? Too bad I'm not very patient. Heh.
Mandisa is made with gold seed beads and 4mm Swarovski crystals in Vintage Rose. Retails at RM55/US$16.

Hold On Now...

OK, so I've been busy... what else is new? Ha!
Had a deadline to meet but managed to squeeze in some beading time when the inspiration struck me.
I now have a bunch of new stuff to post...
It's just finding the time to photograph them that's the problem right now -_-
So you're thinking, what's the big deal, right?
Just snap away, load it up online and you're done!
I just couldn't live with myself if I did that.
Seriously.
It's like I have OCD when it comes to photographing my work.
*sigh*
Bear with me k?

In 2006...

:: I started this blog
:: I broke my 2006 New Year's resolution just as I made them -_-
:: I started to concentrate on my jewelry making in earnest
:: I got my very own car! MY CAR! Brand spanking new... not a hand-me-down, not second hand, not paid by my dad but my very own car that I am solely responsible to pay for and maintain... Yikes!
:: I organised an event for 500++ people and lived to tell the tale!
:: I went on some fabulous holidays with the boyfriend to Cameron Highlands, Phuket and Perhentian Island. Thanks baby!
:: I ventured into the field of teaching
:: My mom started her own business
:: My mom and I picked up a kitten from the streets... he later died due to an illness unfortunately, but we'll always remember the little guy
:: I started working full time on top of my own part time business and teaching a class once a week. No wonder I'm always so tired!
:: I rediscovered my love for Bossa Nova music
:: I figured out PayPal. I know... how duh! of me
:: I started getting orders for my jewelry from the US, UK, Singapore and France through this very blog! How cool is that?

So in 2006, I pushed myself a little more and I grew a year older and hopefully wiser. I have not made any real resolutions for this year because I just know that I'm going to break them and end up feeling guilty... But no worries, I have the best intentions for 2007 and I hope you do too! Happy 2007 everyone and here's hoping for yet another year filled with new experiences and wonderful memories.

Love,
Murni
